"Water smoking-pipe made of green serpentine [a], consisting of reed tube, leather thong, ram-horn water receptacle, and fibre string [b]." Measures: 49cm (H) x 16.5cm (W) x 11cm (D) [Measurements taken from the British Museum online collections database].
This water-pipe was found/acquired in Botswana or South Africa and purchased by the British Museum from William Wareham in 1882 using the Christy Fund. A previous owner was William Bragge. It is attributed to the Tswana community [Provenance narrative compiled by Chiara Singh from the British Museum online collections database].
